Fast Whole Grain Moisture Testing with Bulk Density Compensation
The Schaller Humimeter FSx Grain and Speciality Crop Moisture Meter provides rapid water-content measurements for grains, seeds, legumes and a broad range of speciality crops. It measures whole samples without grinding or other preparation, making it suitable for routine checks in agriculture, grain trading, seed breeding, laboratories and food or animal-feed production.
Why It Matters
Moisture affects storage stability, processing decisions and the commercial value of harvested crops. A result taken within seconds allows operators to assess incoming loads, stored batches or field samples while there is still time to segregate material, adjust drying or investigate an unexpected reading. The non-destructive method also leaves the sample available for further inspection.
The FSx uses a 300 g sample and compensates for differences in bulk density by weighing the correct sample quantity with the supplied scale and measuring cup. It also measures sample temperature between 0 and 40 C and applies automatic temperature compensation. The calibrated water-content range extends from 0 to 50%, depending on the selected crop, with 0.1% resolution and stated calibration accuracy of plus or minus 0.4% against reference material.
Results can be held on screen or stored in the internal data logger, which accommodates up to 10,000 readings with measuring-location information. An integrated USB interface supports transfer to a PC for editing, archiving and export through LogMemorizer software. The instrument is calibrated and tested against recognised drying methods, including EN ISO 712 for grain, with additional reference methods listed for maize, oilseeds and legumes.
