Humimeter FLS Hay Moisture and temperature hay stack 2m probe for measurement of moisture prior to and post haystack formation
If the water content of stored hay, e.g. in a haystack, is too high, fungal and bacterial growth may occur. Microbial growth generates heat and leads to the temperature rising within the haystack to a level where it self-ignites. Regular monitoring of the moisture content and temperature of haystacks will prevent fires and ensure insurance cover in the event of arson.
With the FLS hay stack probe, moisture content can be measured prior to formation of the haystack, for example on the loader wagon or in the dryer to provide information that will determine whether the hay is safe to store or needs to be further dried.
Once the hay stack is formed, the humimeter FLS with a probe of 2 meters length facilitates the checking of both moisture content and temperature deep into the core of the haystack. Regular consistent monitoring will reveal emerging heat spots or moisture spots so they can be eliminated at an early stage.

Measuring procedure
Switch on the FLS, after 3 seconds, the hay stack probe is ready to be used. The humimeter FLS is Pre- calibrated, the water content is displayed on the LCD.
To determine the temperature and water content, insert the sensor into the haystack. The measurement takes place at the tip so measurements can be made at different depths by inserting or withdrawing the probe. It is possible to also continuously monitor the drying process and the temperature variation of a critical area by leaving the probe in a fixed position.
The measurement values can be stored within the humimeter FLS with the push of a button and printed via a portable printer or transferred to a PC using the optional USB interface.
