Refrigerant Regulations and Refrigerant Gas Sensors
Climate change is leading to new laws restricting the use of refrigerants common in air-conditioning and refrigeration systems. Refrigerants with high Global Warming Potential (GWP) are being replaced with those with lower GWP, essentially A2Ls. Such refrigerants are thousands of times more polluting than carbon dioxide.
Residential and commercial HVAC and refrigeration equipment manufacturers are under tight deadlines to develop cooling systems to work with new low GWP refrigerants, and install leak detection systems or conduct leak detection tests per IEC UL 60335-2-40 since next-generation refrigerants such as R32, R454b are more flammable (Safety classification 2L or A2L vs 1 ) at certain concentrations in the air.
